In 2005, community leaders came together with a remarkable vision and commitment to create a local community foundation to connect our communities with resources that would address current and emerging needs and grow the future of Story County. They recognized that we need a foundation that would stand as a pillar of partnership to provide sustainable support for organizations and community wide initiatives, work collaboratively with community partners to instill systematic change and serve our generous neighbors who want to support their communities through charitable giving. These leaders recognized what we still know to be true – when we work together, we can make the most impact to improve the quality of life in Story County.
Your Partner in Philanthropy
The Story County Community Foundation (SCCF) is a nonprofit public charity created by generous local citizens. It builds permanent charitable funds called endowments. Each endowment distributes a portion of its earning annually in perpetuity--forever--to support a charitable purpose. Donations may be made to funds that address community needs and reflect a donor's interests and personal philanthropic goals. The SCCF acts as a broad umbrella, sheltering many separate funds.
Currently, the foundation holds more than 180 different funds established by individuals, families, and nonprofit agencies to benefit Story County, Iowa. Since its founding in 2005, the foundation has served the needs of this area and the wishes of our donors through personalized service, financial stewardship, local expertise, and community leadership. The SCCF seeks to make philanthropy easy and accessible for all by providing the flexibility of giving options.
Improving the Quality of Life in Story County
In a community foundation, individuals, families, businesses, and organizations create and/or contribute to permanent charitable funds that help their communities and organizations meet the challenges of changing times. The foundation invests and provides administration for these funds.
The Story County Community Foundation does more than simply distributing grants that advance charitable activities. It also identifies current and emerging issues, stimulates resources to address those needs and helps Story County prepare for the future.
The Story County Community Foundation has two primary functions:
To receive, manage and distribute funds made available by the Iowa County Endowment Fund legislation for the benefit of Story County communities and organizations.
To provide a means for donors to make gifts that address the challenges and issues confronting Story County communities and organizations now and in the future.
