Economic Development - Story County Community Foundation | Grants & Tax Credits

Economic Development

The Roland Community Center and
Lunch Box Cafe were started with a grant from SCCF.

Story County Community Foundation (SCCF) is seeking to strengthen community through indirect support of small businesses and other efforts intended to increase employment and encourage business growth in Story County.

A special permanently-endowed Field of Interest Fund is being used to support small business development activities and projects in Story County. Gifts to this fund are eligible for Endow Iowa Tax Credits.

Distributions from the Story County Economic Development Endowment have already provided support for small businesses:

  • Hands-on QuickBooks training sessions at DMACC Ames Hunziker Center
  • Professional development grants that help fund memberships and dues to professional organizations that further the goals of small businesses.

SCCF would like to increase opportunities in the county for small business with fewer than five employees to start or grow. The majority of small businesses are home-based businesses and/or proprietor-owned firms without employees.

Community foundations like SCCF invest in the long term and bring people and organizations together, convening diverse voices to address local issues and opportunities. Community foundations are in the business of building community.

Successful small businesses are the heartbeat of any thriving community, regardless if it is urban or rural. Story County Community Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting and encouraging these emerging businesses to add economic strength and civic vitality to Story County.
